The original intention of The Second Rider was for it to serve as a showcase for my art that I could use as a sample or for submissions. While working on it, I was contacted by an editor at Heavy Metal who wanted to know if I had any short self-contained comics I could show them. I sent The Second Rider along, and they suggested a few edits which would make it fit in more with Heavy Metal’s brand, which resulted in a version having more text and a more definitive ending appearing in Heavy Metal #294. This is the version I originally had in mind and ultimately prefer more.
